1950 born June 3rd in Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia.

Visual Artist, working in multiple medias, specialising in photography.
Parallel with commissioned work practice and teaching career, runs a rigorous continuous practice as a fine-art photographer / visual artist.

1971 graduated with 'Diploma in Graphic Design' , The National Art School (Sydney Technical College, East Sydney and Randwick).

1971-1973 early part of career working in the Australian film industry at APA Films in Sydney as a designer, artist and still photographer.
Portraiture of Hollywood film stars Vick Morrow, Leslie Neilson, Susan Strasbourg, Ray Walston and others.

1973 - notably, invited to work with Hans Buhner (Studio) in Hamburg, West Germany as an assistant and photographer. Work for Stern Magazine, Phillips Corporation, Becks Bier + fashion / food.

1973-1974 personal work in Europe and the UK.

1975 - 1987 ran own photographic / art studio in Sydney. Clients include : editorial, corporate, advertising, arts, architecture work.

1987 graduated with 'Graduate Diploma in Education' at Sydney College of Advanced Education.

1987 - 2008 full-time teacher (for 5 years) and Head Teacher (for 15 years) in Photography and Graphic Design at TAFE Sydney Institute - Randwick and The Design Centre Enmore in New South Wales.

1992 graduated with 'Diploma in Visual Art '. The University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts, Paddington Sydney.

1993 solo exhibition, photo-media based installation: 'Bound: From my Fathers Boat-Botany Bay' and 'ROAM'. Installed in the ABC's vast Foyer Gallery in Ultimo, Sydney. Later shown at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney

1993 graduated with 'Master of Art'. The University of New South Wales College of Fine Arts, (COFA) Paddington Sydney.

1993 selected by the University of New South Wales (COFA) to show 'ROAM' and solely represent COFA at The National Graduate Show at The Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Western Australia.

1993 'ROAM' in 'Medium Density- Contemporary Australian Drawings and Photographs' at The National Gallery of Australia. Canberra.

1994 exhibited 'ROAM' in 'Light-Works from The National Gallery of Australia' at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. Australia.

1996 room installation 'Bound' in 'Sydney Photographed' at The Museum of Contemporary Art. Sydney. Australia.

1997 graduated with 'Master of Arts (Honours)' at The University of Western Sydney. New South Wales. Australia.

1997 'Bound`: From my Fathers Boat-Botany Bay' exhibited at Casula Powerhouse, New South Wales Australia.

1997 invited to participate in 'Australian Perspecta' - a series of photographs titled: 'Deceased Estate' in 'Fibro' at The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Western Sydney. Australia.

1998 exhibited in 'Swish' at Casula Powerhouse, New South Wales Australia -a series of photographic works installation 'Cherish 1'.

2003 exhibited in 'Hung Drawn and Quartered' at The University of Sydney's Tin Sheds Gallery. Australia.

2003 selected as a finalist in The Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait Prize in conjunction with The Archibald Prize at The Art Gallery of New South Wales with a portrait study of The Honourable Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG.

2005 Provest undertook a self initiated and self funded project, 'WELCOME' and travelled to Timor-Leste (East Timor) in late 2005 as part of an Austcare supporters group, led by Austcare CEO Michael G Smith AO Major General (Rtd), former Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in East Timor. Provest volunteered to document Austcare's projects and people in East Timor. A personal photographic portfolio was produced, to form the 'WELCOME...to Timor-Leste ' Exhibition.

2006 'WELCOME ... to Timor-Leste' shown at The Sydney Institute Muse Gallery - DET TAFE NSW, in Ultimo.
Included in the exhibition are portraits of The President of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate His Excellency Dr Jose Ramos-Horta.

2007 - 2008. 'WELCOME .. to Timor-Leste' .The Sofitel Arts Hotel on Collins Street Melbourne Victoria, Australia.

2008 'WELCOME... to Timor-Leste'. The NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) Gallery Bridge Street Sydney.

2008 work from 'WELCOME', 'Drawing on a wall in room used for torture', 2005, East Timor, shown in International Exhibition 'PEACE' at Regional Centre for Education and Training, Sharjah University City. United Arab Emirates.

2009 full time practicing visual artist.

2009 'WELCOME .. to Timor-Leste' at 'Tusculum' - The Australian Institute of Architects, Potts Point, Sydney. NSW Australia.

2009 - current projects:
Working title: 'BITTER-SWEET' 2009-2010
(Visual metaphors reflecting experiences, which hold elements of both happiness and sadness). Venue/s: to be advised.

2009 - 2012 Various new projects and mid career - retrospective research and archiving with view to exhibit.

Provest's works are held in the permanent collections of The National Gallery of Australia - Canberra
( title: 'ROAM' - sculpture and photography ), The West Australian Ministry for the Arts, The Australian Broadcasting Commission, The Sofitel (Arts Hotel) on Collins - Melbourne Victoria. Works held in private, business, government archives / and collections.

Formal Awards of Appreciation were presented to Provest by AUSTCARE in 2008 for his help and support on World Refugee Day, at Yarralumla -
Government House Canberra, and also for his work in supporting Landmine Action Week.

Provest is represented in the recently published book by Peter Conrad, 'Australia at Home', published by The National Gallery of Australia. Canberra.
